Join the NEM Modularization Certificate Program for 2024 – 2025.
NEM’s Modularization Certificate Program is a comprehensive learning experience that caters to the unique opportunities, needs and challenges that companies in the manufacturing industry meet.
Throughout the program, you’ll gain a deep understanding of modularization, including modular design principles, modular architectures, and best practices from across the world. It is led by industry experts and seasoned instructors and the program offers a collaborative learning environment. You’ll have access to a wealth of resources, including presentations and assignments, and a the community of fellow enrollees.
HOW IT WORKS
The program consists of three modules of 4-5 weeks, containing one weekly course day with two sessions. The total duration of the program is 14 weeks with 28 sessions. The program is executed 100% virtually and is open for participation from companies both within and outside the NEM network.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
The program accommodates different levels of skill and is suitable as both an in-depth introduction to modularization and for expanding on prior knowledge.
Participation is open for everyone, but NEM members get a reduced fee. Contact us for the respective fees and information about invoicing.

Modularization conference in NEM
On April 20-21, NEM will host a conference that explores modularization through some of the German industrial companies and profiles that we can learn a lot from. At the conference, there will be plenty of activities to draw inspiration from, including presentations and sharing of experiences across companies. The conference takes place in Hamburg, Germany.
Our keynote speaker is Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, who is a legendary figure in the automotive industry and particularly known for his work in Volkswagen and Audi. Among other things, Hackenberg will present Modular Matrix Systems and how a such system can enhance efficiency across the value chain.
The program will also include updates on NEM, and there will be ample opportunity to network with other companies, both experienced in and new to modularization.
Master class: Smart Factory
UPDATE: THE EVENT IS FULLY BOOKED
At the master class, we explore modularization through the lens of product, manufacturing, value chain, and data, and get insight into the production technologies of the future. The event is hosted by Rekon (AAU), SDU Sønderborg, and NEM CfM Denmark (NEM’s Danish divison for SMEs).

Strategic modularization – presented by NEM CfM Danmark
With a holistic approach to modularization – spanning product, production and business processes – strategic modularization creates value for companies by freeing resources throughout the company’s value chain. The presentations of the event are in English.
InnovationLab incl. Smart Factory – presented by SDU
Get insight into working with models and simulation of production cells, the factory of the future and digital supply chains. Digital twins of modular machines and production cells are among the focus areas of SDU’s Smart Factory.

When we moved our website to a different host this Spring, we also developed a new platform for the member section.

Users from the previous platform have been transferred to the new but you need to collect a new username and password to get access.

Biannual meeting in October, 2022
Mark your calendars on October 5th, 2022, where we will meet up for this year’s second biannual meeting in NEM. This time, we will meet in Denmark, and we are happy to announce that Grundfos will be our host of the day.
We look forward to seeing the facilities at Grundfos and hearing about the organization’s fascinating modularization journey. The program will also feature a keynote speaker, and we will give an update on current and future NEM activities, projects, partnerships with universities and consultants, followed by a give-and-take-session.

NordDesign 2022
The conference theme is How product and manufacturing design enable sustainable companies and societies, and we are proud to have two NEM profiles, advisory board member Niels Henrik Mortensen and CEO Christian Eskildsen, featured in the conference program.
About NordDesign 2022
“The early phases of product and manufacturing development significantly influence all key properties within sustainability such as costs, social and environmental impact – the so-called triple bottom line. Many industrial companies are becoming more and more specialized which is necessary to develop and launch competitive products. Thus, decision-making in product and manufacturing development is also becoming more difficult, e.g. which concept to choose? Which technology balance between software/electronics/mechanics is right? And which type of connectivity is relevant in two years from now? Most models that are utilized to support decision-making is only valid in one or few engineering domains. One of the important reasons for having engineering design research and conferences such as NordDesign 2022 is to develop methods, tools, mindsets and theory that bridge engineering disciplines and thereby can support the early phases.”
The conference is organized by the section of Engineering Design and Product Development at DTU Mechanical.

After a very succesful run on the 2021-2022 program, we are happy to announce that a new round of the NEM Modularization Certificate Program will return this Fall. The program consists of three modules of which the first is scheduled to start on September 8, 2022. A brief program description can be found here.

International Summer School on Product Architecture Design – PAD2022
PAD2022 is a three-day academic course directed by researchers from international universities, this year in collaboration with Volvo.
The course includes workshops on topics such as product architecture, modularity, and sustainability , and also offers the potential to explore new research fields and network with peers.
PAD2022 is primarily intended for young scientists and post-graduate students who are currently doing research in the field of methodical product development with focus on product architectures and modularity but is open for a limited number of industry participants.

NEM conference on consultancy approaches to modularization
On February 23rd, we will explore modularization approaches by consultancy firms and the link between modular strategies and increased competitiveness.
At the conference you will meet representatives from Modular Management (S), CPC – Center for Product Customization (DK), Brick Strategy (S), Schuh & Co, and Porsche Consulting (D), who will share their perspectives on and experiences with modularization in practice. Our speakers and their respective consultancies all have extensive experience with operating in and servicing customers from the northern European industrial sector.
The conference is the first of its kind in Northern Europe to assess the interplay between consultancies and modularization
